A nerd version of Hooters restaurant

Nerd
Are you a nerd or geek? Want women to cater to you? Japan might have the answer...

In Japan, they have what are called "maid bars" where a geek or nerd can be called "lord" and receive the special attention we all deserve ;)

This article has a bit more detail.

I'm afraid that I might be left-out, as I'm not really into the whole anime thing and that's apparently where the maid outfit concept comes from. However, I'm all for a Hooters type restaurant where the waitresses can discuss the latest Linux kernel version with me instead of some sports thing. How long until these hit the USA?

Pac Man Christmas tree is the coolest anywhere!
This unconventional tree displays a slightly animated version of Pac Man! Just a quick post this time as my Spanish isn't anywhere near good enough to figure-out what they're saying. Perhaps Steve will chime-in. Anyway, this pyramidal tree displays a mock version of the classic arcade game Pac Man on its four sides. The graphics are slightly animated, so you'll see a ghost bouncing around, but due to the nature of the maze, the game is not actually playable. Check-out the video of the Pac Man Christmas Tree below. Now what gaming geek wouldn't want a tree like that?! ...

Digital pinball machine - another version
Here's another version of the virtual pinball machine, using a 42" monitor instead of a normal playfield. I wrote about a virtual pinball machine called the Ultrapin a while ago. Ultrapin was built to look like a normal pinball machine except the playfield has been replaced by a 42" screen which displays virtual bumpers, ramps, and other pinball goodies. It's a neat idea, but by making it look like a regular pinball machine, you can't help but compare it to the Real Thing and therefore find many flaws and reasons why it's not as good. An Austrian company called TAB...

Bake yourself a medieval castle cake
Let's take a detour from the usual tech stuff and take a look at what might be called the geekiest way to bake a cake. I like castles - a lot. Visiting ancient medieval castles in Germany and France was one of the high points of a trip to Europe I did a few years ago. Castles are generally fairly geeky things when you think about it, whether it's because of the design and construction or because they appear in every Dungeons & Dragons and role-playing game ever made. Well, who says you can't get a bit geeky in...

Glow in the dark pigs?
How weird is this? Some Taiwanese researchers have created a few glow-in-the-dark pigs by adding genetic material from jellyfish. It sounds like they're planning to put the concept to good use, rather than just make it a circus-style freak-show, but it's still pretty weird. ...

Cop computers interfere with Dunkin’ Donuts computers
Oh the irony... When going through the drive-through of a Dunkin' Donuts, the New Hampshire police have to disable the radio modems on their mobile computers to avoid interfering with the store's sytem. At one time, I thought that the idea about police eating lots of donuts was just a funny stereotype, but obviously, there is more to it than that! This article documents that the coppers like their donuts but apparently have trouble getting their order through due to a new computer system installed in the cars. It must be quite the conundrum when they are drooling for...
