The world’s lamest amusement park?

Photo from the ghetto amusement park
It looks abandoned, but it's not! This park is open for business...

When you see these photos for Fantazyland in Egypt, you'd be forgiven for thinking that it was abandoned and possibly had even been used as a military training ground.

However, this amusement park is actually open for business! Of course, "open" is a relative term. It seems that most of the rides are inoperable, which I suppose is probably good when you consider the safety issues which are likely present.

What I cannot believe is that somebody took the time to actually build what appears to be a decent park with some nice rides, but then they let it decay to such a level. Perhaps there are other issues which take precedence to riding roller coaster - perhaps like not getting shot, but still...

Still here - just busy
It's been a while since I posted, so I wanted to let you all know that I'm still around and I haven't abandoned the site or anything like that. I've been engrossed with moving across the country (again) and getting myself enslaved to the corporate world (again). That has kept me from my usual routine of finding cool tech stuff to write about. Anyway, I will endeavor to find something worthy of a post over the next few days, but for now, please stick with me as I navigate this new life course for a little while ;) ...

Glow in the dark pigs?
How weird is this? Some Taiwanese researchers have created a few glow-in-the-dark pigs by adding genetic material from jellyfish. It sounds like they're planning to put the concept to good use, rather than just make it a circus-style freak-show, but it's still pretty weird. ...

The Epcot wand being removed
These photos of the Epcot wand and Spaceship Earth were taken yesterday, 7/13/07. As you can see they're moving pretty quickly to pull the letters off the wand. I'd imagine that the larger wand itself may be a bit more work. I made a few-hour stop by Epcot on Friday the 13th (oooh scary!) and as I was driving to park, I noticed that the bulk of the "Epcot" lettering has already been taken-down. I also grabbed a pic of the walls around the ride entrance. I'm not a purist, but I agree with many that the wand just...

Home-built indoor rideable roller-coaster
I've always wanted to build something like this, but alas, I don't have any spare warehouses or other large spaces just sitting around... Random surfing netted me this interesting tidbit today. Some Italian artists have built themselves an indoor, full working and rideable roller-coaster. Sadly there are not that many photos and definitely no movies but you can get a pretty good idea what they've done. Unlike many so-called roller-coasters that people build, which are either un-rideable or basically just a hill and 10 feet of track, this one is a full circuit with several hills and banked turns. ...

Disney and Pixar professionals discuss fixes for theme parks
Interested in reading professional opinions from Pixar and Disney employees (and ex-employees) on how to fix the problems with the theme parks and get Imagineering back on track? If you're a Disney park nut, this is a must-read. I stumbled across a very interesting blog today. So interesting, at least to me as a Disney theme park nut, that could not take the time to post it sooner because I was reading it in all of my free time throughout the afternoon! In a semi-blog, semi-forum format, Disney, Pixar, and other professional theme park workers comment on how the Disney...
